Microsoft's Partner Program gave developers/studios a license and hardware for the commercial development and sale of video games. Early adopters received:
- Initial Alpha hardware
- Beta hardware to replace/refresh old alpha hardware.
- Subsequent final Development kit and/or Test kit hardware
It's important to note that the consistency of Partner Units isn't exact as the program experienced cost-cutting measures, due to the current and increasing cost of hardware development for the Xbox 360, rending various "Variants" across multiple SKUs of systems.
