Microsoft's partner program gave developers/studios a license and hardware for the commercial development and sale of video games. Early adopters received:
- Initial Alpha hardware
- Beta hardware to replace/refresh old alpha hardware.
- Subsequent final Development kit and/or Test kit hardware
